What is the Grin Scope?

The Grin Scope is an FDA-registered intraoral dental device designed and created by an orthodontist. It attaches easily to any smartphone and works by retracting the cheeks to provide a full view of your teeth and mouth. This device pairs with the Grin app to take photos and scans of your teeth that can be shared with your care provider.

The scope package will contain the scope itself, a strap that fits over your device, and instructions for use.

Attaching the Scope to Your Phone

The Grin Scope attaches to your phone by positioning the smaller end of the scope over the back-facing camera on your device and securing the strap over the screen. Your scope should fit snugly and entirely cover your camera lenses and flash. You can adjust the strap to fit by pulling gently on the loose end to tighten.

Using the Grin Scope

Your scope should fit your mouth so that there is a full view of your teeth from various angles. This means it will retract your cheeks and the edges will pull away from your gumline for the best view. It may seem like the scope is large at first but cheek retraction is necessary in order to get the best images and scans.

There are two models of the Grin Scope, regular and mini. The regular Grin Scope 71.1 mm wide and provides full oral cavity view. The mini Grin Scope has an 18% smaller mouth opening at 60 mm and was designed for pediatric orthodontic patients.

Cleaning Your Scope

Your scope should be cleaned before and after every use with warm water and a mild dishwashing soap. Wipe dry with a clean microfiber cloth or paper towel. Use of abrasive cleaners can damage the scope which may lead to breakage. It is dishwasher safe (top rack only). Do not boil your Grin scope as this may cause warping.

You can store your scope in a clean container, plastic bag, or its original packaging to protect the scope from dust and debris.
